OXTED QUARRY

PSL initially worked on a scheme with overarching aspirations to facilitate the immediate cessation of mineral and infill activities, the restoration of the site using existing material and the delivery of a residential development that could be economically viable. The site is located within the Surrey Hills AONB and the design evolution was strongly influenced by a Landscape and Visual Appraisal within this sensitive landscape. To this end, the design incorporated houses which were positioned in the most unobtrusive locations, on three stepped levels where new planting would integrate and connect the site with the wooded ridge. The proposals integrated on-site conservation and heritage assets to provide an enhanced, bespoke environment, in character with the high quality local landscape.
