UPTON HOUSING DEVELOPMENT

Pleydell Smithyman Limited were appointed by a private home builder to work in conjunction with other professional consultants to manage, design and implement this unique housing development in Northampton.

The development included an innovative mix of eco-technologies and cutting edge design to achieve a layout which was sustainable, well connected, and rich in both rural and urban character.
The project team worked closely with the Local Authority and English Partnerships to deliver a scheme which was in-line with contemporary planning guidance and the scheme was one of the first housing projects to be successfully delivered using a design code.
The Upton development highlights Pleydell Smithyman’s flair for creating high quality environments and demonstrates how a first-class public realm can be achieved through the use of innovative design techniques and sustainable building methods.
The scheme includes Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) and swales which act as green corridors through the urban structure giving rise to native planting, the creation of ecological habitats and also recreation space with local character and a true sense of place.
Upton has been well received and championed by CABE and the Homes and Community Agency (formerly English Partnerships), whilst also receiving commendation from H.R.H. Prince of Wales for its character and urban form.
