SHROPSHIRE COUNCIL
SEVERN VALLEY COUNTRY PARK
Working closely with the Park Rangers at Shropshire Council, Pleydell Smithyman designed and oversaw the construction of two natural play spaces focussing on sensory stimulation, family play, adventure, discovery and natural experience for both able bodied and less able young children. Our design concept sought to explore and respond to the natural elements present in the park along with the site's former land use as a colliery, and to reflect the spirit and atmosphere of the landscape. The play area formed an enjoyable focal point for families in this busy destination country park.
We also worked with SVCP, the Severn Rivers Trust and consultant team to provide design and costing information for a sculpture trail and illustrated ideas for a bespoke Severn Trow boat play area. This was part of a successful round 2 HLF bid 'Unlocking the Severn' awarded in summer 2018, as part of a wider proposal to reintroduce the migratory fish called a Twaite Shad back into the River Severn upstream from Worcester and create interpretation hubs along the river, of which SVCP is one.
