Play Area Reviews Helps Secure Funding for Play Areas in Stockport

A review of Stockport's play areas, undertaken by Pleydell Smithyman Limited has helped to secure £615,000 of funding. The Play Area review was based on a comprehensive programme of site analysis, desktop research and consultation and sought to identify key strategic sites for investment. The funding is from a one-off transitional fund of £1million, which was itself announced by the government in February to help mitigate the impact of its subsequent cuts. The money will be spent over the next years on 10 parks identified by the Play Area Review; works will include installing new play equipment and redesigning play areas.

Councillor Sheila Bailey, executive member for communities, explained "this decision is about using every opportunity that is available to us to provide safe, well maintained and accessible play spaces for children. Our parks and greenspaces are invaluable, particularly in urban areas and we are committed to ensuring that the benefits of these areas are available to all residents across the borough."
